Counseling is about making your life and relationships better.

Families…

One of the most powerful influences in one’s life is often their family. Important beliefs are frequently “caught” in childhood through day-to-day experiences versus being taught. I work with families to increase their emotional connection by discovering safe and loving ways to talk about and see one another’s feelings and needs, to care for one another authentically and to have healthy interdependence that values each member’s unique strengths and personhood.

Couples…

Families often include a couple who wish they were closer. It’s difficult to know when it’s time to reach out for support—and, often, it’s hard. “If hurt, confusion, and negativity are accumulating in your relationship, I encourage you: allow your feelings and needs to matter enough to reach out. Give your relationship permission to be valued and supported. If you have children, a healthy marriage is one of the best gifts you can give a child.

Children…

Families frequently include children who may not know how to tell you about their big feelings. Perhaps they cannot articulate to you why they act the way they do. In the therapeutic and safe setting of a playroom, children use play as their language and toys as their words to share their personal story of what is going on in their life and in their heart. As a play therapist, I “see” each child’s story and reflect back the big feelings they are sharing. I validate, affirm, and work to build their self-esteem, giving them tools to grow.

Teens…

And children become teens and young adults working hard to discover their own authentic self. It can be helpful to teens and parents alike to understand what is going on in the brain and body of an adolescent. Often, relationship expectations must shift to accommodate the needs of a developing teen. Together, we can discover ways to honor exploration and interdependence, all in a safe and healthy manner.

Parents…

In many cases, parents want to understand how to re-connect with their child or teen, and they want hope that better days lie ahead. Together, we can look for ways to build on the strengths in your parent-child relationships and add effective, research-based methods to help the parent-child relationship become more fulfilling for parent and child—a relationship in which the feelings and needs of both are considered and honored.

Adults…

Sometimes, life circumstances and relationships just plain hurt. Our needs go unmet and our feelings unseen. No matter the age, losing love, experiencing overwhelming events or abuse, or feeling that you’ve failed—these things must be grieved. All people are worthy of being seen and understood. The counseling relationship can be a safe place to tell your story and can be the catalyst for healing and redirecting your future.
